"Hello,
Well I have an OMC

"Hello,
Well I have an OMC cobra 5.8L ford 351 engine from 1991. I was working on replacing the oil in the out drive. Put on the water muffs and turned on the hose. Prior to this engine turned on beautifully and no leaking. Today I turned it on and water started to pour out of 2 of the 3 frost plugs on the passenger side engine block. Also I noticed water constantly streaming out of the seal on the thermostat housing...Any ideas on what happened, I did notice some hard water staines streaks from those two frost plug holes, could they have rusted out?, and where do I find out how to replace the frost plugs. thank you in advanced for any help."

"Ayuh,....

Is this a Saltwa

"Ayuh,....

Is this a Saltwater boat,..??
If so, it's probably a Rust-out problem....

Does it get Cold where you live,..??
If so, It's probably Freeze Damage...."

"I live in Canada, Great lakes

"I live in Canada, Great lakes, it is fresh water, but raw water cooled. I had drained the block for water but maybe not enough before winter. I find it kind of odd that at the same time the thermostat housing would start spewing water as well..any ideas on that?"

"You will probably be more luc

"You will probably be more lucky if the plugs are rusted rather than pushed out by ice. You can remove them with a large screw driver and hammer, whatever it takes to get them out. Putting them in requires hammering them in with a large deepwell socket or the like. If you have no room to swing a hammer, you may have to use the rubber type that you can install with a wrench. Thae out the thermostat housing and thourally inspect it."

I think that perhaps I didn&#3

I think that perhaps I didn't drain the block fully although I thought I had. It is more likely that the ice pushed it out a ways and then I am thinking the last couple of rides they shimmied or slipped out. As well the thermostat housing is leaking now because of the fact of expansion due to ice I am thinking. Hopefully I didn't crack anything but with my luck probably did. What are your thought fellows? Could I be right.

"Replace the soft plugs, repai

"Replace the soft plugs, repair the leaking thermostat housing and try it, keep an eye on the oil that it does not get water in it. That will junk the bottom end."

Well I replaced the frost plug

Well I replaced the frost plugs and no more leaking there. There was continuous leaking from the thermostat housing...when I took it apart...ouch the intake manifold where the thermostat housing attaches to was cracked. It's about 3 inches long and straight through. Any ideas where I can get a new one for cheap I have looked and looked on the internet.
