Water leaking into boat

"I have about 20-30 gallons of water per hour getting into my boat. I've checked everywhere for damage to the hull and there isn't any that I can find. What are the most likely suspects with the 280 outdrive?
...and what is that little hose that comes out of bottom starboard side of the transom shield, not the cooling water hose, but lower and cut at an angle? No mention of it in my manuals...but it's there. Also, inside on the starboard side of the exhaust Y pipe (350 chev) I have a verticle pipe that has been blocked off that screws into the exhaust manifold not far from where it exits through the drive. What was that for?"

Where does it look like its coming in? If there is that much.......You gotta see it....

"I think you need to look a little closer. 20 to 30 gals per hour it should be relatively easy to tell where it is coming from. Certainly easier than me trying to guess all the possible places it could be coming from. Could be anywhere from a bad bellows, cracked block, hose etc. Take pix if you can then post.

Have a great day,

Rob."

"After much scrutiny and wring

"After much scrutiny and wringing of hands, I decided to fill the hull with water. I have a small "drip-drip-drip" coming from a small hole under one of the trailer rollers. I can't actually see the leak and the roller may actually be blocking it from showing more of a leak than I'm seeing. Noticed nothing coming from around the outdrive or through the outdrive, so I think it's okay. I am floating the boat with all the floors taken up on Sunday to see what I can see. You're right, it should show as a very prominent leak."

"David,
I was just doing a test of my new bilge pump this afternoon and filled the bilge (bottom of hull) up to about 4" under the oil pan.

ENLIGHTENING...The bilge pump works great--BUT I found a small, slow leak coming out of one of my transom mount bolts. Good time to seal that up.

Back to yours. It sounds like you're on the right track to get the floor up (sole) and have a good look while you're in the water.

With the boat in the water I'd guess there's more pressure pushing the water in. You may have a crack or a rotten spot in the fiberglass. Let's hope it's an easy fix.
Better to find and fix these things now instead of 5 or 10 miles offshore with the wind kicking up."

"If you have a crack in the fiberglass hull there, West Marine has a great booklet on repairs, only $5 or so, or you can get the DVD for $20 I think. Covers interior and transom work too."
