"I have an alpha one mercruiser outdrive. Somewhere I have a leak which is going into the bilge. I can not find it. Does anyone know where a leak would be? It only takes on water when the engine is running. Thank you for any help you can give me.

" universal joint bellows, shift shaft cable bellows, exhaust bellows, check all three and I bet one of them is cracked. Raise the drive all the way up and look up under drive with a flashlight. "

" Lee, If the leak occurs onl

" Lee, If the leak occurs only when the engine is running, then it is likely associated with the waterpump in the outdrive, or engine cooling. The raw water hose on my Mercruiser 4.3LX/Alpha drive runs from its "thru-hull" connection on the outdrive mounting plate to the power steering cooler located below the port side of the motor, and then from the cooler up to the thermostat cover. I recomend you check this hose for a leak at one of those connections. Alternatively, it might be any of the hoses running from the thermostat cover to the exhaust manifolds and risers. My V6 motor has a total of six hoses (raw water, port riser, port manifold, stb. riser, stb. manifold, recirculation hose from motor waterpump). They should be easy to check for leaks with the motor runnning. "
