I hope someone can help me with this... I have a 1986 OMC 4.3L V6 that came out of a Sunbird. I am using this motor in my 25ft trojan cruiser while I rebuild the old gray marine engine. I used a pressure plate and bell housing from a chevy 350 so I could mount a velvet drive transmission to it. I started it up and ran it and everything seemed to work fine. After letting it sit for a couple of months while I worked on some cosmetic issues in the cabin, when I went to start it back up it would not turn over. After going through the usual checklist of issues,I decided to tear the intake and heads off and inspect the motor.
As it turns out, there was water incursion in the back 2 cylinders. Not a whole lot, but enough to create a small rust pocket that locked the motor up.
My question is, what caused this?? I don't want to go through the hassle of repairing this motor if its going to happen again.
Could it be because the motor is supposed to sit straight and I have it at an angle to line up with the angle of the propeller shaft??
This is a great little motor but I don't want to invest any more time in it if this is going to happen again.
Thanks for any help... It is greatly appreciated.
