water in piston mariner2.5hp

Hi please can someone help!
just went to start my mariner MA 2.5hp 2006 model and found it seized, i removed the sparkplug which was realy tight to remove and found it rusty at the gap, removed the head and found the top of the piston slighty rusty with spots, guess it was just a drop of water or moisture? I cleaned up with WD and oil and left oil in the top of the piston overnight, this morning i pulled over an with a bit of resistance the piston freed up and moves nicely, the cylinder looks ok, should i use light emery to wipe around top end of cylinder?

What do i do? I guess the water entered through the head gasket? Do i just replace the head gasket? or should i remove the piston and check the rings etc for rust? Isit a big job i have little knowlege with engines but willing to get a manual an have a bash!!

Im realy gutted hardly used this engine for my tender, should this of happened to a newish engine?
Many Thanks Andy

The biggest concern is if water got in on the crankshaft bearings , but it sound like you might be OK here.----------------Replace head gasket and start it up !---------------- Sometimes motors are in a flooded basement. Then when the owner wants to start it up 3 months later it is indeed a problem.
