"I have a volvo 130C. I replaced the head gasket that was bad. It was rusted between the water jacket hole and the cylinder. Put it all back together and it runs good, but still get water in the oil after 20 minutes of running. Where else do I look, cracked block or head? I don't know much about the moter as I bought this boat for $200.
thanks"

"Were the block and head mating surfaces flat, or did you find severe wastage due to corrosion?

Sorry if I sound pessimistic, but I think that the repair could cost you far more than what you paid for the boat."

I would do a leakdown test of

I would do a leakdown test of each cylinder.
Pressurize each cylinder with compressed air and listen for leaks. If you engine is fresh water cooled you should remove the heat exchanger cap. That should help you identify where your problem is.

"Robj, the AQ130 is raw water cooled. It has an oil cooler, but those coolers seldom cause trouble."

"I have the same motor and problem, my problem was caused by the water pump/impeller shaft being worn out...had to rebuild the shaft/seal."

"My husband and I recently bought a wriedt boat with a B20/AQ130c engine. We have worked for two months trying to get it running. We have replaced the cam, had the head re done, plugs, wires, cleaned the carbs and replaced the cap and rotor. The darn thing idles OK but when you give it gas it stalls out. It also back fires thru the carbs. My husband is going crazy from this motor, he has been a tech for over 20 years and has exhausted himself with this boat. Any ideas will be greatly appriciated. Thanks in advance!"

"Brooke, first, ask your husba

"Brooke, first, ask your husband to get hold of a copy of the Seloc and/or Clymer manuals for that engine. Also, ask him to download the operator's manual from this link:

http://www.volvo.com/volvopenta/global/en-gb/marineengines/operators_manual/

Second, if compression is good and valve timing is good, he only has spark and fuel to check. But having replaced the camshaft, is he sure that the valve timing is OK? It would appear it is OK if it idles correctly, but he should double check.

When it comes to the carbs, there is a procedure to set them, which is well described in the Seloc manual and in the operator's manual. Check also this thread.

http://www.marineengine.com/discus/messages/12487/24961.shtml

However, if the engine backfires through the carbs, it sounds like ignition timing problems to me. Your husband should also make sure that the ignition wires are plugged correctly. The firing order is 1-3-4-2, and the distributor rotates counterclockwise. Does he have the wires for cylinders 2 and 3 swapped by any chance?

Well, this should be a good start to troubleshoot the problem. Please start another thread if you wish to keep on with the discussion."
