Hello, I have what I believe is a 2003 trophy with a mercruiser maybe 3.0? Not sure can't remember, i know it is a v8. Anyways, long story short five years ago the water pump went and the engine block cracked so the insurance company payed to have the block replaced, after the shop replaced the block we noticed oil in the bilge. At this point we weren't with the insurance company anymore and all our oil levels including power steering, engine oil, and lower unit oil were all up to level so we put it off. The following spring when we were getting it ready it needed lots and lots of work and we didn't have the time so it sat for two years. This spring were starting up again on it and we checked the oil first thing and it was very milky brown... we immediately pulled the drain plug on the oil and pure water came out. Enough water to fill up my entire catch can up to the brim (over 6 quarts) and hardly any oil came out. Something I noticed is the dipstick seal was broke so it just stuck out a centimeter from the dipstick tube, I don't think that much water could've gotten in through the dipstick especially when the cover was on the engine this whole time. I have no idea how water got into the engine, it had been sitting aswell... it never overheated after getting a new block, my dad suspects the mechanic messed something up because the leaking oil happened after we got it back from their shop. We plan on pulling the engine. Anyone have any possible clues of where the water got in? My dad thinks the drain plug to the bilge was closed and maybe water accumulated in the bilge and it got in through the oil leak that the engine supposively has from the oil residue found in the bilge and water just flooded into the engine. Again, the engine hasn't run for two years, and my dad was crazy enough to taste a little bit of the water coming out and he believes its fresh water not salt water (we used the boat in the ocean). If anyone has any clue please comment.
