"Have volvo penta 350 inboard

"Have volvo penta 350 inboard (1987 i think) was getting water in oil. Changed exhaust manifolds and gaskets, took boat out for 3 days all good. 2 weeks later go out and now getting water in oil again! Manifolds only 4 weeks old. No antifreeze in oil, just salt water. Any ideas?"

"OK, so you have a Closed Cooling system and no engine oil cooler.
The E/G (ethylene glycol) and h2o mixture will also turn your oil whitish/milky colored if you have an issue with a head gasket or an issue with the intake man gasket.
Doesn't take much to turn it whitish either.

How have you confirmed that this is salt water?
Is the H/E coolant level changing any?

Just because an engine is fres

Just because an engine is fresh water cooled does not necessarily mean that the engine does not have an oil cooler... Two different things.

You said you replaced the exhaust manifolds... Did that replacement include the risers/elbows?

Also.. you said its an inboard. What kind of boat? Do you have flaps on the exhaust ports?

"Jason,

It is customary to start a new topic even if there is one that has the same problem you are looking to solve.

So far as your problem... Could be that the seal on the back side of the water pump (shaft seal) is leaking allowing seawater to get into the engine. If the pump is leaking it needs fixed regardless."
