"1 quart of water in oil every 2 hours of operation. New rebuiltMerc. long-block this spring in this '92 23' Maxum. Compression is strong. Replaced exh. manis and risers and flaps too w/ genuine merc parts and runs fine on garden hose, but under load, oil foams up afer 2 hours use. Confounding authorized merc. dealer. bellows are fine. Thanks for suggestion for 13" from waterline to top of risers. Just re-seated intake mani improved, but not fixed. Please help. How do I find if there's a cracked block or fitting?"

"Did you check for an engine oil cooler in the water inlet hose? If there, it may have a hole in it. Just a guess."

If resealing the manifold improved it you are obviously in the right area.

If block and heads were machined during rebuilding the manifold may not now sit properly enough to cover the water ports, carefully remove the manifold and closely inspect the sealing surfaces to see how they were mating up.

You may have to get the manifold machined down but at the very least get it crack tested.

"Try this: After running it good, let it sit overnight. Next, pull the coil wire and crank it over. Did it go RRRRRRR or RRR-hesitate-RRRR-hesitate? If the latter, pull all the plugs and look for water on them.

I suspect you're getting water in from the exhaust. This test will confirm it or not.

"Did you inspect the exhaust shutters at the "Y" pipe? If they are not functioning, backwash will run into the mans."
