Water in lower unit oil hypoid

"18 hp johnson. Totally taken apart in my garage. Thought I'd change the hypoid oil while waiting for parts in the mail (coils, condensers, plugs, wires, carb kit). When I unscrewed the botton plug, water came out followed by nasty dirty oil. What should I do?"

Why only do the top? Pull the lower unit too. Seals and stuff in there need updated and a good time to inspect for any damage at the same time. That way all the crud is out of there.

Good thinking. Already ordered the other seals. MIght as well do the whole thing. THink its a leaking seal?
 
Probably a combination of smal

Probably a combination of small leaks.. Seal it up tight with a new kit and it will last you for years. I do seasonal drains and refills of the lower units just for peace of mind. A tube of lube is cheap insurance.
