Water in Cylinder

Hi Guys
Just looking for some advise , over the weekend we where runing the boat which I might ad ran great , until I stoped for a while and when I went to start it ,it turned over real slow like a dead battery . I thought that it was time for a battery so we where just care full and finished the day out, but when I pulled it out of the water and hooked it up to the hose to flush the saltwater out it did it again but worse then it locked for a split second while cranking . I knew by the sound it was water in the cylinder so I started pulling spark plugs out . The very first one towards the front of the boat released air presure and then I could actualy hear the water runing from the hose into the cylinder and then out the spark plug hole. So the question is , is it head gasket or exhaust manifold, what would be your gues and is the motor toast now? The motor is a 1985-86 3.0 GM with a stringer drive on it. Hopefuly some one will chime in , Thanks:confused:

Pressure test the cooling system. Could be the head also the riser. If the engine was turning you should be shooting oil pb blaster or something into the plug holes. My friends boat just have it happen to him what happened to you... 3.0L 94.' His problem is the head right behind the t-stat where it mounts to the head the wall opposite went.

This is a common problem area. I've seen several 4cyl do this over the years.

Thanksfor thereplys. This is what I found I presure tested the cylinders and all of holes have roughly the same presure of 190 to 196 so I am assuming that my heads and head gaskets are fine. But what I did find is what I believe is a failed riser elbo gasket where it attaches to the manifold. The gasket was not complete on the outside ring of the elbo but the iner ring where the exhaust gasses pass there was no gasket at all, so I think that is where the problem is , what do you guys think
