"Hey guys. I've got big problems. My Chrysler ace M6 Crank case fills with water. I pulled it out of the garage yesterday and hook up the water hose. Before water started coming out of the exhaust, it had pushed the dip stick out. All this with out the engine running. It sits in my garage that never gets colder than 50 deg. This just started!!! The cylinders are dry and no water leaking outside. I'm pretty sure that I will have to replace the block. If so, what are my choices? What other blocks will match up to all my accessories? This engine doesn't have 10 hours on it and other than this, it runs great! THIS SUCKS!!!!!!!!"

"Allen, Back in the '70s I owned a 26' Steelcraft with a Chrysler Crown marine 6 cylinder. After owning the boat for about 8 or 9 years, my engine began displaying the same symptoms you are describing. We pulled the engine and discovered that this very old engine, although being quite reliable, had developed a corrosion hole in the cylinder wall very low down on the number 6 cylinder. Actually, I was able to identify the problem while the engine was still in the boat by pulling the pan and holding a mirror under each cylinder with a light. When I got the mirror under the no. 6 cylinder a water drop hit the mirror (bad sign). Anyway, to make a long story short, the machine shop was able to bore and sleeve my cylinders and I was able to use the engine for another 7 years before selling it. It goes back to the old saying, "marine engines typically don't wear out, they rot out." You may have this same problem that I experienced many year ago. Good luck."

Found the problem this afterno

Found the problem this afternoon. The freeze plug behind the cam gear is leaking. Got to pull the motor but better than a cracked block anyday!!
