Was the starter submerged? May need removed and tested. Tic Tic could be the starter solenoid or the engine slave solenoid.

"The water probably reached the middle of the engine. The battery cables got corroded and I replaced them. After connecting the two batteries I was able to get the engine to turn, but it will not start. The engine turns and it seems to want to start, but I GUESS its missing someting as it comes so close, but doesnt spark.

At times it seems that it wants to start and cranks as long as you keep turning the key, but never turns on.

What could it be, if the engine got water to the middle of the engine, might the spark plugs gotten wet?

IS THE engine water tight, or is there any possibility that water might of gotten into the engine?

Thanks, you guys are the best..."

"It sounds like your starter survived, which is sort of miraculous.
You should check your oil pan for water.
I would also pull the plugs and check them and the cylinders for signs of water and corrosion.
How about the fuel tank? If it or the vent was below water, water may have gotten into it. Check your water separating filter by removing it carefully and pouring the contents into a bucket and look for water.
How about the distributor? I would check under the cap for moisture and corrosion also.

What type of plugs should i replace the ones that I have in there with. Is there any way that the water could have intruded into the engine through the plugs?

"Water won't get in via the spark plugs. If the dipstick tube was loose at the base, water could get in that way but you would also have an oil leak there. You did not provide an engine model or year. Look at the port valve cover to see if the label states what plug and its gap.

As Rod stated to check your plugs, gas and oil for water. If the oil level is over the full mark on the dipstick then it probably has alot of water in it. Drain a little oil out via the oil pan plug--if water is in there it will come out first.

After you pulled and/or changed the spark plugs and it still won't start, try some starting fluid by spraying it into the flame arrestor. If it sputters or starts then you have bad gas or a carb issue."

Whenever I used to get a lot of moisture in the engine compartment in my old 1989 3 liter. there would get moisture inside the distributor cap. worth checking if not already done. If water got half way up the motor water through dipstick is also likely which needs to be taken care of. When this happened to me the dealer had to drain/fill/run the motor 3-4 times to remove the water.

"Hate to be the bearer of bad news, but if your starter was submerged, chances are it will fail at the worst time. It should be removed and cleaned. While you're at it, might as well install new brushes."
