Running a 1998 7.4 mpi, Bravo 1 in a 26 cuddy boat. Went for a 3 hour run yesterday and when I checked the bilge on return a fair amount of water. I had checked prior to the trip and there was only the noraml puddles in the bilge. It has not rained and the boat has not been washed.

There are 2 saltwater thru hulls on this boat, both were closed and are not leaking.

The Bravo 1 is a new install about 3 months ago by a very very good mechanic so I trust he did everything correct. the Transom plate is original

Where are a few good places to start looking for this water interusion, I'm convinced it came in during the 3 hour run.

thx

Re: water in bilge

Carefully check the raw water system for the leak. Look for a buildup of crud at a connection or a rust stain. You may have to run it at sea and check for it while someone drives the boat.

Re: water in bilge

installing new engine and outdrive, there is a seal at the swivel pin of the outdrive. if not installed the water and oil will leak into the bilge. you cannot see it since it is in the transom and the engine blocks the view.

Re: water in bilge

Mine leaked also. I have bravo 3. The rubber boots around the drive and steering cable might be the problem. If they don't get it on perfect, it can leak a little or a lot. Put your head in the engine compartment and listen. You might even hear it dripping and find where it is coming from.

Re: water in bilge

If only leaking when engine running, check impeller lines, housing and exhaust system including Y pipe.
