water in 4 stroke mercury engine oil

While i was replacing my water pump impeller I think that i did not properly seat water tube from top of impeller housing to tube end on motor. When I started motor water came out of leg where it doesnt usualy.Could this cause water to get into engine oil? I ran it about two minutes before shutting down and corecting tube then when changing engine oil noticed milky
 
You don't say what year, which engine or serial number. The water jacket is separated from the crankcase for a reason. Was the oil level above the dipstick full mark before you changed it? Did you fire it up after changing the oil and correcting the plumbing? What does the fresh oil look like know? A little more info. and history please.
 
Its a 90hp efi 2006. serial 1b 253480. I noticed the foamy oil after I ran the motor for awhile to warm it up for changing oil.I never had any other sign of trouble the motor is used regularly and runs flawlessly.I did not run it again yet to see if any more water in oil.Thanks
 
I should also mention that I do routinely change and check the oil level during season and have never noticed anything except proper level and always oil that looked perfect like new. I have owned boat and motor since new.

There may not be a water problem. Everyone has a different interpretation of water contaminated oil. Cheap engine oils w/o antifoaming agents will look contaminated. IF you have the old oil you can check it to see if water has settle to the bottom. If not you need to run the engine a few minutes and check for a change in the oil characteristics. Drain a small quantity into a narrow galss container and let it sit overnight. Then check for separation.
 
I'm curious as to whether you got to the bottom of this.
I recently purchased a sub 20 hour 40hp mercury with boat. It has had a 12 month service as it hadn't reached 100 hrs but the filter is non genuine. The engine oil is creaming up so don't know if they've also used a cheaper oil or if I might have a more serious issue
