Water Dripping from Shift Linkage

I've got a 2006 Sea Ray 175 with the 3.0L Mercruiser and I have noticed that there is water dripping from the end of the shift linkage cable. It still shifts just fine and seems to be functioning properly. One mechanic told me to just leave it until I start having problems shifting but I wanted to get another opinion if this is something that should be replaced now or if leaving it awhile could cause other problems.
