" Hi Joe,
Just wanted to say thanks for the diagnosis on my 1991 115hp Evinrude. Finally had time to replace the stator this weekend. (And Power Pak - Now I have a spare). The Stator was the problem as you suggested. (Problem was: Engine ran fine till hot. Shut it down and could not restart till it cooled down.) Eventually, (as you said) the stator died all together. Replacing was not a major ordeal even when I had to pull the flywheel.

Puzzled no More and learned an aweful lot about the engine in the process! "

"Glad to hear you solved the problem. Now.... I hope you torqued that flywheel nut to factory specs (105 foot pounds). If not, the flywheel key will shear.

" Yes. Nut was torqued to Spec. Had my Father (a retired Machinist)assisting me. Knows alot about tapered Shafts / Keys and his know how proved invaluable. Just when I thought we had the flywheel properly seated and nut torqued to spec, he gave the top of the flywheel a few light taps with a hammer to shock it. Damn, he knew there was more play and sure enough the nut turned another 1/4 turn before tightening to spec. Repeated this 3 times with no further give. We absolutely know the flywheel is seated securely and the nut is tightened to spec. There is no substitute for a couple of wise sage's like you and Dad.

Thanks Again! "
