Warning system malfunction?

A friend of mine has a 96, 75 hp Mercury. He left the ignition switch on for several hours after running the gas out. When noticed it the alarm horn was sounding a continuous beep. Now, the horn comes on when the key is truned on and won't stop. We have disconnected the oil level sensor and the temp. switch and the horn still sounds. We cut the brown/blue wire at the horn, which goes back to the engine and the horn stopped. Question 1: Would this indicate a bad warning module? and Qustion 2: Where is the module located? Thanks for your help in advance!

It sounds like you have a bad alarm module. Testing procedures for it are in your manual. It is located low on the starboard side of the motor. It will have 2 blue, 1 purple, 1 black, and 1 tan wires going to it.
