"I was out today and had the warning horn come on in my 1997 Mariner 2 cylinder 30hp. I was at a dead idle for a few minutes. We were Walleye fishing and decided to do some trolling and a dead idle is about the right speed. It's never happened before. I also never let it idle that long either. Most of my Walleye fishing is done while drifting. If I bump it up off an ideal it doesnt come on. It also doesn't come on if I'm running in the upper rpm's. The water spout is spitting plenty of water at all rpms, but does spit more the faster the engine turns. Does anyone have any ideas on what might be up?

Thanks
Tim"

I would say that the warning system has done its job.I would say that the waterpump impeller blades have taken a " set " over time and it needs to be replaced. The waterpump is no longer functioning as a 100% displacement pump at idle because the blades are "set " or worn.

I'm going to replace the impeller this week. I was thinking about doing that already before this even happened. I also found out that the spark plugs that are in the motor arn't the right ones. I had been replaceing them with what was in there when I got it. They are one heat range (7's instead of 8's) hotter than called for. This wouldnt have anything to do with it would it? Spark plug heat I dont think has do with operateing temp just spark temp....right???

Thanks
Tim
