warning horn 1995 125 Johnson Ocean Runner

I suspect that my 176362 pick up assy is causing the warning horn to go off after about 10 minutes of running time. A strong steady stream of cool water is coming off the back of the engine. I have the pick up out of the tank. How do I check it out. I had a problem with this once before and the marine mechanic did something with the oil tank assy to rectify the problem.

whats the temp of the water coming out of the spout? after the alarm comes on will the water temp dam near burn your hand? is your oil tank more then a 1/4 tank full? is your VR02 pumping the right amount of oil (producing a 50:1 mix ratio)?

The water coming out of the spout remains very cool after the alarm comes on. The oil tank is at least half full. How do determine if the unit is pumping the right amount of oil?

Is there a way for me to determine if the pick up is functioning?

I The first time this problem occurred the marine mechanic who resolved the alarm problem billed me for a new"pick up assy. @$70, Filter @$7, oil @$25 and to replace the oil tank and check the alarm system" Total Parts $160, Total Labor $102 ($262).

In observing the each of the above components it is quite obvious by looking at the disassembled parts that none of the items I was billed for was actually replaced - so I was scammed - but he did resolve the horn problem at that time. Because the mechanic centered on the oil tank pick up I suspect the problem to be located there.
