"I have a 1992 Johnson 115. When I start it at the dock and it idles too long a constant alarm goes off.Once I start to pick up speed it will go off. It appears to be pumping plenty of water.Should I start with the horn, thermostat or water pump?"

"constant alarm,is overheat.U

"constant alarm,is overheat.U could verify eng temps,w/a temp gun,..but u prob need a new water pump kit.remove therm's and test them for proper opening temp's..it does sound like one or both therm's may not be operating right, and when u pick up speed, pressure rel valves open, allowing more cooling.
I would prob recommend doing both the wtr pump kit,and therm's & press rel valve assm,in your case, getting it back to where it is supposed to be."

I would for sure look at water

I would for sure look at waterpump good idea to change every three years useing engine or not the vanes get set may have small cracks or missing junks pumps at high speeds but weak at idle replace and run/ like jwb posted check up top with heat gun or melt sticks
