want to add a second helm at stern

Good morning, all. My name is Jason Connellee. I am from Northeast, MD. I currently own a 1999 25' C-hawk. It has a Mercrusier 454 and a Bravo 1 outdrive. I would like to add a steering helm/control station at the stern of the vessel. It currently has the power assist steering setup with the power steering pump on the engine. The helm in the pilot house is teleflex cable. How can I add a second station ? I have a pretty good idea for throttle and shift controls. Ignition switch is pretty straight forward as well. Just need some direction or advice on the steering. Advice or suggestions ?

Welcome aboard!

The best approach, for the steering, is to switch over to a hydraulic system. There is a slim chance you existing cable system is dual station capable but you'll need to check with whoever made it.

I think you will be much happier with the hydraulic switch. I've seen one dual station cable steering equipped boat and I didn't like running it...too much effort.

Thank you for the response. I agree. I did some additional research after i posted this thread in regard to hydraulic setups. I think that's the way I will be going. I'm just curious if the steering assist cylinder that is mounted on the inside of the transom can be utilized with hydraulic setup. Either ATF or hydraulic fluid. That cylinder is buried down so low, and the motor takes up so much space, to remove it, I'd have to pull the motor. Thanks for the reply. Great site

I don't believe you need the power steering with a hydraulic steering system...whether or not you can keep it will likely depend on the hydraulic system you opt for. I'd call the tech support shop for your #1 and #2 choices and see what they say. Either path will require removing the existing steering cable so you will have to access those connections.
