I'm getting ready to install a '90 60HP Johnson on a flats boat I'm building. Should I hook up the VRO or just pre mix. The motor has a fresh rebuild job on the top end. Thanks.

"Throminator.... That's a judgement call you'll have to make. Just be sure that the warning systems operate as they should and that the VRO has a active four (4) wire warning system leading from the back of it.

" Who rebuilt the motor? You or somebody else? I don't know if this applies only to factory warranties or to my dealer, but he told me that on the new ones covered under warranty, disconnecting the VRO would void the warranty. As I'm sure you know, a rebuilt motor is like a new motor in that it needs double oil. I guess that means premixing 25:1 or doing whatever mix would be appropriate with a VRO. Good luck. "

Chances are if the motor's VRO was disconnected when you got it then it doesn't function any more. The only way to correct it is to replace the fuel pump.If you have plenty of money you can do it but if you don't mind mixing oil with your gas then the motor will work just fine doing that option.I talk with experience.Every now and then my alarm would go off on oil delivery .If I squezed the bulb I could get it to go off.The dealer told me that the fuel pump is responsible for the oil pressure to the carbs.New pump was $200 and is only good for 5yrs.or so.I had the vro taken out and it was a pleasure not hearing that beeper going off.I had put two fuel pumps in the engine in 9 years. Now it is trouble free and still going.
