Can a newer sytyle VRO from say a 2000 model year be adapted to fit my 85 v4 120

Myself I would install a fuel pump from say a 66 100 HP.--has a filter and water seperating bowl too.--------A newer VRO pump can be put on your motor if the hose fittings point the same way.
