VRO Oil Line

Looking to replace my cracking Oil line from the VRO to the Johnson 90, but am trying to see if there is an cheaper alternative to the $4.93/ft OMC Oil Hose. Is it possible to just run a 1/4" fuel line from the auto parts store or is the OMC hose required?

I would put the factory hose in. Do not pump the oil primer bulb while the line is hooked to the VRO pump, you will damage the pump. Leave the oil line off the pump, pump the ball until the line is full and then connect the line. Mix up a remote fuel can with 50:1 oil mix. Run the engine until you have purged any air from the oil system.

Thanks for the help! I ordered the OEM hose today. Also I was doing some reading and remember seeing something about not using worm gear clamps or splicing the oil line.... Well look what I stumbled across just now.

So just to make sure I understand what you said as for replacing the entire line..

Run an external tank premixed to the engine. Replace hose from primer bulb to engine(not sure where it goes yet on engine) then crank engine on premix and run till air is purged from the new VRO line. As for when to squeeze the oil prime bulb, I'm not sure I follow you? Am I filling the new oil line from a seperate tank then once the line is primed I'm hooking it back up to the VRO? From the sounds if it it seems as if the VRO is on the engine and not the tank? I'm showing my newbie-ness..... I know.

how do I know when the air is fully purged from the system?

Bare with me as I've never worked on these two strokes before.
 
After you fit the new oil line, leave it disconnected from the vro pump and squeeze the oil bulb until oil comes out of the end of the line and install it on the pump.

Now mix some fuel and oil at 50:1 and run the engine for a while. The VRO pump will be pumping oil while it is running and drawing fuel from the fuel tank with the pre mix. The pre mix fuel will lube the engine while the VRO purges any air. Yes, it will be getting more oil than usual.

After the new line is installed and the pump has been purged, you should never squeeze the oil primer ball. It will damage the VRO pump.
 
Thanks for all your help Chris! Hoping to get it knocked out in a week or two. I've got a wedding this weekend so boat tinkering is out of the question.

Also I've got to go pick up a rigging tube kit from bass pro to cover all the controls and hoses up better.
