Can anyone advise me on the proper procedure for setting the leg tilt indicator and stops for a VP 290A Stern Drive.
I need to remove the stern drive to replace the steering arm journal bush in the transome shield and in so doing will lose the tilt angle register and automatic hydraulic end stop positions.
The last time I removed the leg I had to resort to trial and error in setting the position transducer and the transducer drive rack.

Any help will be greatly appreciated.

"Tom,
Assuming your drive tilt angle sender is the same as in the drawing below, the best way to set the trim indicator angle, in my opinion, is to tilt the drive as far down as it will go then loosen #9 (gear segment) #9 (screw) and push the gear segment aside (to starboard). Take #10 (drive gear) and turn it until your trim indicator reads -4 and then, being careful not to move the drive gear, return the gear segment back where it properly engages the drive gear and tighten the nylon screw. Do this with steering centerline! Good luck!
