"Has anyone had the trim hydra
"Has anyone had the trim hydraulics fail on their XDP drive? I have had the bellows issue and the drive oil leak issue previously recorded on this forum. This week, I had the trim oil hydraulics catastrophically fail (as luck would have it, I was back at my temporary mooring, and not 5 miles out with a bunch of kids as I had been 30 minutes before). Fortunately, I had a very competent mechanic fix it [Quick note: Ever in need of service in the Plymouth/Duxbury/Kingston, MA area of the world - Long Point Marine, excellent.] He pointed out that the hydraulic failure was due to abraison of the hydraulic lines against the drive casing when it was turned to starboard and trimmed up slightly (like it would be running on plane). After 40 hours of back and forth, the end post finally failed. He then proceeded to show me. I was aghast. As I'm sure all can appreciate, any abraision in a mechanical situation is a no-no, particularly below the water line. But there it was. As an added bonus, the water feed hose is pinched (yes, pinched) between the trim ram and the housing, and is ALSO abraded every time the drive is raised and lowered. I will be approaching Volvo about this tomorrow, but wanted to get feedback from the forum as well. Obviously, both of these would be asinine engineering designs, so I'm not sure what's happened. Thanks for any feedback.
