Volvo turns over but doesn't start

My Volvo Penta AQ125 worked perfectly last year but now it doesn't start up. I have replaced the ignition as well as the coil. The boat has turned over but continues to not start up. At first there was no spark even going through the coil but when I attached a jumper wire to the coil and to the battery a light turns on (the ignition light). Now this could be the distributor but i cleaned the points on it. Any help?? Also the trim stopped working, is there connection with that too?

Without the jumper, with the ignition switch in the "on" position, do any of your gauges register?

Atleast on my boat the key has to be on to run the trim motor. As far as the no firing goes start testing connectors on the coil. Sure the battery is good ETC..
