I am installing a new volvo sensor on my SX drive. The sender has two black wires and one white and I have a new compatible Teleflex gauge with two terminals plus a ground terminal. I can measure resistance between the two black sender wires and the resistance varies with the sender position. There is no continuity between the white wire and either black wire. What is the white wire for and WHERE do I connect it? The new SX drive replaces a Cobra and my wiring harness was set up for the OMC single sender wire + a ground wire.

If your harness is similar to my '00 DPS you will find that only 2 wires are terminated in the harness plug inside the transom. The schematic seems to show the white wire terminated with the solid black ribbed wire. The non-ribbed solid black wire goes directly to ground.
