Lost reverse gear on port engine. Shaft turns but slowly and not providing any torque. Any ideas on how to start?

If forward works fine then check shift linkage.
If manual check cable if electric check solenoid and the amount its moving

Disconnect cable/solenoid and move it manually to see if that's the problem
