Volvo Penta Major Tune Up Questions

Hello, I have a Volvo Penta that needs a major overhaul. The uploader is giving me errors so here is a link to the album: http://imgur.com/a/QDksM

First thing is the intake manifold. With rust accumulating around the manifold. Is safe to dissemble,clean and replace the gaskets or should the whole unit be replaced.

The U-joint is completely rusted. I'm assuming this has to be replaced and is unsalvageable

Water ports have a lot of white crusty build-up. Any tips or perhaps a solvent that helps with the cleaning.

The gimbal bearing and bellows will be replaced. With this level of wear is there anything else that I should look out for.

If the elbows are leaking on the outside they are leaking on the inside. The u-joints are trashed, replace them. They u-joints and the gimble are trashed because the bellows are leaking.

Change the exhaust, change the bellows and change the joints. All will be right with the world.
 
just went through that with my boat. be careful of pulling or prying between where the 6 bults are that hold on the rear. if you damage it it very hard to find the separate parts. I had to takeout the engine and use a sleg hammer with a block of wood to hit it out from with the engine copartment
 
Change the U joint and gimbal, clean everything else put a new boot, the raisers, I will start the engine and see if there is good water flow and temp stays in check before changing
