Engine starts and runs fine , prop won't engage in gear when throttle lever is moved back and forward . Worked fine last time out , is this something easy that I'm not doing .
 
There is usually a widget ( button) you need to push or toggle at the throttle lever mount or on the throttle lever itself to get the throttle lever to change from throttle only to throttle and shift mode.

More information needed.
What model of DP ? What kind of controls? Do they use morse cables or electronic?

Jeff, at the end of the day after the cows have come back to the barn, the eccentric piston must be operating and capable of raising/lowering the sliding sleeve.
Gear oil must be clean and free of any water intrusion.
If the piston/shift shoe are not raising or lowering the sliding sleeve into the respective gear cup, you will not see gear engagement!

Pulll the shift mechanism and look at the shift shoe and sliding sleeve.
Cost = draining gear oil, a few new O-rings, etc.
Catch the gear oil... if clean, there's no reason why it can't go back in.

Start at the eccentric piston, and work your way forward.
Or, start at the shift unit, and work your way towards the drive.
