"I have a 2002 8.1 Volvo Penta

"I have a 2002 8.1 Volvo Penta EFI, MPI that will only start when I use starter fluid.
Once it is started it will run all day long just fine.Once I shut it off, it will not start again w/o the starter fluid.
I replaced the EFI relays and tested both fuel pumps and they are perfect.
Could it be the ECU or a sensor telling the injecters not to prime the plugs on start-up?
On the MPI their are 8 seperate injecters."

"I'm not very familiar wit

"I'm not very familiar with injector type fuel systems. However, when you turn on the switch to a vehicle it actuates the fuel pump to supply pressure to the injectors. When you depress the accelerator on the vehicle a squirt of fuel is released into the intake. To see if signals are being sent to the injectors "noid lights" are used to detect the signals...a cheap set is easy to be had. I got mine at harbor freight."

the ones I have came in a set

the ones I have came in a set which you can pick out one that fits in the electrical connector to the injector. Basically they're simple test lights which are made to plug into connectors rather than having a probe and ground wire. You will be looking for a pulsing light which is the way an injector is supposed to work in that it releases fuel as the piston approaches the intake cycle... at least that's how I think it works...sounds good to me. That is how I've diagnosed a couple of throttle body injected motors and was able to fix the problem on them...injectors were clogged and had to be replaced.
