"I have about 300 hours on twin 8.1 GI engines in a Cruisers 340. At about 100 hours I had occasional lack of starting ...no connection after the two beeps. At 100 hours I first had trouble with the Stbd engine. It continues to get worse, now not starting the last 20 times out of 22. I solve it by removing, then replacing the same starting relay at the top of the engines. It happens with both hot and cold engines. I am clearly in neutral. any ideas??"

Are you replacing the slave solenoid with a new one each time, or just reinstalling the old one? Check all your connection at the starter, inspect the starter solenoid and verify voltage on the backside of your ignition switch.

Do you hear a clicking noise when you try starting?"

"Mike,

Just reinstalling the old solenoid, actually sometimes just pulling it halfway out, then pushing it back in.
I do not hear a clicking noise or any noise....just nothing...dead!!
I have heard from Volvo who said they had a series of the 8.1 engines that have bad relay "boxes" and my two engines are right in the middle of the engines reporting bad relay boxes. I am having the relay boxes replaced and will try to get Volvo to honor the expired warranty.

thanks for the help!!!!"
