"I have a 2000 fourwinns with twin DP-S drives I have had it for 4 years, my question (is it normal when shifting in to gear to clunk)have had no problem but the last few outings I have noticed that the starboard drive has a drive train noise when in nuetral idling cant hear any abnormal sound at higher RPM.
I did drain the drive oil looked great no metal last service was 50 hrs by me, my second question is now (the starboard drive dosen't clunk)and sounds more like a merc should I be looking at a problem or is it just imagination!"

"I have a 2000 FourWinns w/ 5.

"I have a 2000 FourWinns w/ 5.7GiSx,DP with new engine from Michigan Motors due to old one freezing. My local marina installed the new engine. Above 2500RPM, the engine runs up to 190 degrees. I haven't presses it to see if it would get hotter at WOT. I have replaced the fresh water pump impeller and T-stat w/ no changes in temp. I am suspecting an air leak. Where should I look and how should I test. I read the postings about masking off the intake and pressurizing. With an engine replacement, would the potential leek be behind the engine or at the outdrive connection?"

"I just received my Chaparral

"I just received my Chaparral 260 signature 2001 with a volvo 5.7 GSI engine and a volvo DP outdrive.
It has 103 hrs on it. I got it from a NJ dealer.
After the dewinterizing and checking thouroghly of everything I did a trial test on a fairly rough sea 2-3 ft waves, with 8 adults and full tank, it reached 38 mph and 4200 rpm full throttle and an F4 prop.
out of the water I changed the prop with an F8 recon prop. Putting it back on calm sea it run up to 4200 rpm for 10 minutes and after that it was unable to go more than 2200 rpm and hardly 15mph with 3 guys onboard ??
I changed the fuel filter, it came out clean and nothing changed with the new one.
Temp is 150 F, oil press 40 psi, oil just changed and checked same with the outdrive oil. NO Alarm sound at all, evrything looks pretty normal, except for the speed and the rpm which never exceed 2200 at full throttle.
Any ideas or help will be very much appreciated specially I'm on the other part of the world(east africa) and I start getting depressed after waiting 3 month for its arrival.

The maximum RPMS that you can

The maximum RPMS that you can get out of an engine is not recommended for continuous operation. For good engine life one should limit continuous operation (cruise) to 75 to 80% of maximum possible RPMS... ASSUMING that the max RPMs that you get is within the recommended MAX RPM range for that engine.

Check the compression in all the cylinders of the engine.
