Volvo Penta 5,7 acting funny....

I have a Volvo Penta 2001 5,7 GSI that sometimes runs rough and makes a "hissing" sound. The sound dissapears after a while but engine still lacks power.
Any qualified answers will be greatly appreciated.

There are a half dozen GSi models, could use the rest of the letters

Figuring TBI and VST

Is fuel pressure at 29 PSI?

Dump the fuel filter contents into a clear container to see if there is just clear gas

How old are the plugs, cap, rotor, wires?

Thanks for quick reply AllDodge!

PEFS

Not shure what you mean by figuring TBI and VST? But TPS is new.

Fuel filter checked, brand new fuel pump but havent checked pressure.

Brand new plugs, cap, rotor and wires.

PEFS - Should have 31 to 27 psi high side fuel pressure, 12 to 4 psi low side

TBI - Throttle Body Injection
VST - Vapor Separation Tank but you don't have one of those with PEFS

EST ignition

Will check pressure thanks!

What could be the issue with the TBI?

the problem comes and goes. Some days everythings fine and others it runs rough and almost stops. Or runs but lacks power or starts hissing....

My first thought is might have a fuel system clog (antisiphon valve, collapsed fuel line, clogged fuel filter, or injector issues)

There can always be a sensor misreading, caused by a bad connection, sensor going bad, but the motor does not have any O2 sensors

The ECM gets it's inputs from the TPS, MAP (manifold air pressure) and IAC (Idle Air Control) valve

I wouldn't change anything without testing first

If fuel pressure is correct than start measuring voltages and even better is have the ECM scanned
