Volvo Penta 5.0 vortex gxi petrol engine rev problem

I have a Volvo Penta 5.0 vortex gxi petrol engine rev problem and think I have solved it.

What was happening?
When I tried to get engine over 2000rpm it slowed down and nearly stalled.

Solution
Looked at the Oil Pressure Safety Switch.
There was rust on the connector part of the Oil presser sender.
Removed terminal wire from sender and then replaced the switch.
Runs perfectly.
Hope this helps someone.

Please ask for more details if needed.

Interesting assessment...... and you may be correct!

As you know, this N/O low oil press switch is to cut the fuel pump electric supply in the event of a non-running engine (i.e., no oil pressure).
In order to start up (prior to oil press), there is a "start by-pass" relay system triggered by the starter solenoid circuit.
Once the engine is operating, the N/O low oil press switch closes, and keeps the pump's electrical circuit closed.

The question for me would be......... why would this rusty connector allow for RPM up to 2,000, but not over 2,000 rpm?

the fuel pump on volvo carbed motors are not operated through and oil pressure switch, they go through a diode from the alternator when running.
your gxi motor is also fuel injected and both pumps are operated through the ecu not the alternator diode.
