Volvo penta 5.0 trim

I have a 2001 Ebbtide 201 bowrider and I cannot get the trim to work while the boat is in gear or moving forward. I'm thinking I should be able to trim everything while I'm running down the lake. Am I wrong or can anyone help me with this?

Depends on which model drive. Not all Volvo drives have "trim", while all have a power lift feature for maintenance and/or trailering.
