"I have a 2000 Glastron GX185

"I have a 2000 Glastron GX185 with a Volvo Penta 4.3 gas engine. This last summer I had the boat on Mille Lacs (MN) fishing during a May Fly hatch. Actually pretty gross, they were crawling up the side of the boat, they were everywhere. These little guys start out in the water and you could see alot of them in the water as you looked down. I ran out about a half hour to fish during the day and then back in closer to the launch site for the evening. No problem out and back, but as I started up again to go in I overheated very quickly. I shut the engine down and used the trolling motor to get in. My question is could these little may flies actually have clogged my cooling system? I would think the cooling system would just mulch them up and spit them out they weren't that thick. Question two is after the water pump was replaced my temp gauge shows about 115 degrees fully warm, before the water pump was replaced it would show 130. Do you suppose I just had a marginal pump impeller to start with and the bugs finished me off?"

"have you checked the risers o

"have you checked the risers or manifolds, mine kept doing something similar till i replaced the risers. then everything has been fine."

Risers have tiny little holes

Risers have tiny little holes in back where water squirts into the exhaust stream. If they plug up.....Not good. (For this reason one should avoid silicone on gaskets joining the exhaust parts together).

"Hey 1st boat - So your boat continued to overheat? I have been running the remainder of the year ok, other than the lower engine temp. If things are runnig fine should I even worry about low engine temp? I do get a very occasional back fire, usually after I have just floored it to pick up a skier and then back off on the throttle, probably a different issue??"
