Hey so i am a complete newby to outboard motors. I bought a volvo penta 39 for 50 euro and got it running. But during the maiden voyage the engine started revving and the prop stopped turning while on deep water. I took it apart and some little metal piece dropped out where i couldnt find it.
Does anyone know what caused this and if it can be DIY fixed? for the money i paid on the old thing i cant be bothered to spend mutch on it but right now its all i have. I did read about things like a spun hub but i dont see any rubber in there, just metal on metal with a toothed weel that i assume should engage with the prop somehow.
Its an incredibly simple machine so i hope there might be a redneck fix for it of some kind.
its a 2stroke aircooled, no reverse, no neutral, just a gas lever. likely 40 years old. ran on the first pull tho once i got the pullcord replaced and the wires resoldered.
right now boat and engine are stranded on shore on the edge of the lake 3 hours walk from civilisation.
