volvo penta 350 ci w heat exchanger overheating HELP

New member
OK! New heads, risers, exhaust manifolds, water pump,took out new thermostat, new impeller in raw pump, risers run cool, engine overheats, . heat exchanger clear or atleast hose water runs through it as fast as i hose it in. Help! what else can it be?

Which model Volvo Penta???

If AQ series, look at the water neck fitting. The early ones are aluminum, and should be considered a "wear item".
There is also special beaded gasket underneath this fitting.

If later AQ series, the water neck fittings became plastic and O-ring sealed. These can crack.


Which sea water pump is your engine equipped with?
If Jabsco, you'll want to know that there's a potentail issue with two possible impellers.

Look at your exhaust elbow to Y-pipe rubber couplers (95mm soft wall exhaust hose).
The OEM couplers are always too short. When too short, the couplers can become squeezed into the elbow scallopped areas, causing the spent sea water to become restricted.


No need to leave the thermostat out. Find the real issue, and correct it.
