After having both a Mercury outdrive and now the Volvo DP-S outdrive I can easily say that Volvo is a much better design.

The 'ole light bulb eventually comes on, doesn't it?

Now if you were to compare the last of the AQ series to that of the newer ones, the bulb will shine once again! But that's another story, for another day!

Yep... Volvo simple and direct, high quality materials... Merc, overly complex with cheesy materials (compared to Volvo)
