volvo gxi 5.0 2006

New to forum, I just had a compression test done as I had a buyer for the boat. 6 cylinders came in around 175/180. cylinders 4 and 5 were 150/155.
Guy that did the test said it had a major problem , which I thought a bit drastic.
Motor has 75 hours, mostly lake boating.
any suggestions where to start?

Thank you for your reply Chris. I lost a sale because of the "low" compression. I am going to run the boat tomorrow in the lake as it hasn't been run for a few months and then get another compression test done. I have spoken to another mechanic down here and he seems to think it may be a valve issue and he suggests a leak down test. Unfortunatley anyone wanting to buy the boat would want to see the compression pressures im guessing.

Compression test should be done on a warm engine, all plugs removed and throttle wide open. After you get it hot and test again, you will see the numbers come down to around 150PSI.

took the boat out on Saturday. Now have a squeak from somewhere. The saltwater impellor housing is leaking so have ordered a new part (21212799). I will install this and go from there. The squeak may be the alternator ? How come it costs you money when you buy a boat and also when you sell it????

the new impellor housing and pulley arrive today , hope to tackle this project this weekend. What should the torque be for the 3 bolts to when installing new pulley?

As late as 2001, Volvo listed compression minimum as 75% of the highest cylinder. When I purchased my boat in 2014 (a 2010 long block), compression on all was 150-160 ... :)

Installed the new pulley/impellor housing . When I took the 3 bolts out to remove old pulley, 2 washers fell out from behind between pulley and mount on all 3 bolts. Is this an alignment method and do I need to put them back? seems fiddly if I need to. Runs ok and belt looks ok when running.
Leak fixed, now replacing water pump, believe its my squeak!
