What would cause dark drive oi

What would cause dark drive oil in one drive.The other one is clear.

Heat would be my first guess. Did you also find metal shavings? What model of outdrive do you have and what type of oil are you using?

"Dark oil normally has to do with heat created by load. In Your case I might suspect that one engine might be 'trailing' and the one with 'black' oil is taking the load. It might not be the engine itself, but difference in prop tolerances creating it if You try to adjust running on same rpm. Have You synchronized Your tachs?"
