volvo backfire

I have a 4.3 volvo penta it runs good for a bit then the rpms will surge and it backfires threw the carb. I don’t know if it’s a fuel problem. But it may run good for an hour or so then it just starts to do it. It’s not running hot at all. Please help.

Sounds like it my be running low on fuel at the carb and going lean. Will it idle and go just off idle OK? Weak fuel pump?

it has all the power you need it will idle all day come off of idle just fine. it will run at 3200 rpm for a bit then a surge and a backfire. then back at 3200 rpm. thanks for your help
