"Had a look at my manual and the service manual says to adjust valve clearance every 100 hrs.Just was going to do some maintance on it and took of valley cover .thi engine is a 4 cyl o/head cam.I was expecting to see tappets.havent done a o/head cam before,just 4 cyl pertol and 6 cylinder motors.How do you adjust clearance on o/head cam engines or are they just hydralic and cannot be adjusted.Anybody help."

"Quite a tidious job on this engine. Yhe clearance is adjusted by changing washers/shims of different thickness inside the cups on top of the valves.
Just measure the clearance, if not too much out, leave it!"

"yes the clearance does not seem to bad,did not measure it but it is not noisey.i was going to adjust them just to do some maintam=nce but think it better left alone.what about the head tenstion bolts should this be a must to check."

Leave the head as is if no problem!
The most important maintanance on theese engines is the cam belt. I recommend to replace it at minimum every 3-5 yrs an probably even the cranckshaft drive gear as well. You get the parts from any volvo car dealer or Volvo Penta.
( Not sure about Sierra).
