I took boat out for first time

I took boat out for first time since last year.never could get up to plane the highest I could go was about 2600 rpm lacking power underload runs fine until put in gear .got worst and was backfiring out of carb and ticking noise.could this be timimg or a valve issue?

I had the same issue on my AQ1

I had the same issue on my AQ125a and the backfireing was due to wasted exaust manifold. Replaced manifold and corrected erosion on the exaust port of the head at # 3 and # 4 cylinder. It runs like a top now.
