"First summer with my new-to-me boat (2004 Larson LSi) Volvo 5.0. Can someone help me trouble shoot this? Had it out this weekend (4th or 5th time so far).

Ran the boat in the morning, then anchored for a bit. Started it up an hour later, ran it slow for a few minutes, then picked up speed. Soon as I did, I knew there was a problem. The engine sputtered, lost power and then quit.

The engine turns over when I start it but won't run. Checked the safety shut off, fuel and oil is full, and spark is good. Has new distributor and wires. When I tested the fuel pressure to engine, it seemed weak. Is the culprit my fuel pump? Or is there something else at work here? Any suggestions are appreciated!"

"Kathy, It sounds like it, for the trottle body engines you need 10-15psi (gsi), for the port fueled 30-35psi (gxi). puting a gauge on the test port abouve your high pressure pump will tell you."

"I have a 1998 Larson with a 4.3GL, bought it new. I had the same problem every two years - replace the fuel pump.... Replaced it 3 times in 6 years, finally went to an auto parts store and bought a racing fuel pump for a car and have not had a problem since. Original pumps are sorry....... convert and you will have the fuel you need."

"Thanks, guys. I don't think it has ever been changed by previous owner, what a nice present for me! Mikewilly, did you find the racing fuel pump at a chain auto parts store or did you have to go to a NAPA type store? Would it be for a Volvo type car engine? Any specifics would be appreciated!"
