We have replaced all distributer and all leads along with a new cab casket kit , have drained all old fuel , replaced ignition with a new one ,oil changed but still cant get the engine to idle at low rev it will idle at about 1400 rpm but this is still to high and ever time we adjust the idle screw it stalls , we have also tried to adjust the jet screw it still stalls.

Engine runs like a dream but still wont idle , have tried many things to no avail please help.

Any suggestions.

Possible solutions maybe ????????????

Year/model, type of ignition (EST or mechanical advance), type of carburetor, etc..... will help us help you.

Things to look for in the mean time:
BASE ingition advance setting.... is this set to OEM specs? (too much BASE will cause a higher idle rpm)
Carburetor base gasket..... is it sealing properly?
Any potential vacuum leaks elsewhere?
Throttle plates..... are they capable of closing fully, and of course, capable of being set for a correct idle?
Have you removed the throttle cable for a test?

BTW, most any carburetor that is found on the Volvo 5.7L, will offer both low speed air blend screws, and an idle position adjustment screw.
The air screws adjust low speed air/fuel ratio only. (actually, these control the air into the low speed circuits.... not the fuel)
They may affect idle rpm, but doubt that this is your high idle problem.

Start with a compression test...if that is normal, use some wd40 to spray around manifold and carb gaskets to test for leaks...a history of when this problem first developed would certainly help with an accurate diagnosis
