hi guys i have 1993 twinn merc 2.5 200 hp black max offshore outboards.they are awsome running with 129 psi compression average.i have installed new gauges,new plug wires,new plugs,carbs cleaned ect.i recently noticed that both volt gauges when at idle peg out to 16.once im on plane they return to a steady 12 volts.what could be causing this.any trouble shooting advice is welcome.could both stators be going bad.is there a test i can perform.thanks much.

Wired the new gauges wrong? Get a schematic and check your work.

Put a DVM on the battery terminals and tell us what you read under the same circumstances. I can't possibly figure what could give you readings like that; converse yes. Regulators not regulating.

They are probably wired backwards.
